Sunflower Surprise: Garden by the Ocean

Journey through Alfama, one of Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhoods, before exploring Portugal’s coastal heritage through the striped houses of fishing town Costa Nova, a 6m-tall Farol de Belém lighthouse, and the bow of a traditional Portuguese carrack.

Moving inland, the display highlights Portugal’s agricultural traditions through vineyards, olive groves, and cork oaks, alongside recreations of historic Porto shopfronts and Lisbon's iconic street kiosks.

Bringing the elements together are more than 5,000 sunflowers across 20 varieties, evoking the sunflower fields of the Portuguese countryside, including supersized varieties that can grow up to 1.8m tall.

Sunflower Surprise: Garden by the Ocean also commemorates 45 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Portugal, and is presented in partnership with the Embassy of Portugal in Singapore, with support from Turismo de Portugal and AICEP (Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency). excerpt: gardensbythebay
