SG Haze Q4 2026 situation @ Marina South Pier

In an August parliamentary reply, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu said the southern ASEAN region had entered its dry season. Developing El Niño conditions were expected to make the weather warmer and drier, increasing the risk of fires and transboundary haze. The ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre activated Alert Level 2 for the southern ASEAN region on 3 August, signalling an increased risk of transboundary haze.

The same reply said that national mask stockpiles were sufficient and that schools, preschools and residential and care facilities had air purifiers. Government communications about haze risks and protective measures had begun in May.

Smoke transport depended on both fire activity and winds. NEA’s 1 October advisory identified smoke plumes in southern Sumatra and Kalimantan and warned that southerly or southeasterly winds could bring haze towards Singapore. On 14 October, NEA specifically observed dense smoke from Kalimantan drifting towards Singapore under southeasterly winds.
